Group Communications

What I liked about Group one's presentation is how they discussed how people from different cultures interact and communicate with each other. And they did a good job with presenting it by using both pictures, and videos on each slide that gave good examples on intercultural communication. I also liked how Group one talked about how each culture has their own beliefs, identity and standards each culture lives by. I was even more interested that a person's Native Language can heavily influence communications, and that many immigrants still prefer speaking their native tongue even after learning English. What I liked about my group's presentation is how we all explored throughout our slides communication within different groups. Such as Families, Social Groups, Support Groups, Interest Groups, Service Groups, Work Groups and Teams and Virtual Groups. What I mainly enjoyed going into this project with my group is how we put all three slides together to make one power poi...

Kamilla Andrade Blogg Presentation

GROUP 1 Humanity, humanity is something that we have a lot about but we don't talk that much about. Inside of the topic humanities, there is a lot to talk about. Like Cultures, groups works, food, and potential barriers were so much more than just a body or a human, was art, were different counties and we all have different cultures. Our class had a presentation and in my personal view everyone did amazing, of course sometimes we can all learn more so we know more about what we're talking about but for me, we all were perfectly doing the presentations. Group one talked about culture and communication; cultures are the difference between everyone, we have many different cultures, Like in brazil we eat a lot of chicken hearts and here and in Venezuela they find it weird to eat. But we Brazilians in Rio de Janeiro are used to eating that all the time. I was able to learn a lot with group one presentation, I learned about verbal communication and the use of words to convey a messag...

Michael Arango Presentation Experience

Group 1 Chapter 3 Experience I really enjoyed Group 1’s presentation on intercultural communication. Every speaker brought plenty of useful information and personal experiences that helped illustrate how forms of communication can vary between different cultures. Blephca explained well how these forms of communication can clash and cause misunderstandings between people of different cultures, and that this occurs in both verbal and nonverbal communications. I enjoyed all the different examples that were provided in the video she showed.  Claudia brought some great examples that helped me understand how certain elements of our cultures can change how we live in and view the world. I found it very interesting how many cultures have different methods of taking care of their babies based on what their beliefs considered to be dangerous, such as spirits or impure surfaces. The video about differences in Hispanic cooking was a great way to illustrate these points as food is someth...

Presentation: Chapter 3,9, &10 Blog Experience

Group 1 Chapter 3 I enjoyed listening to the Intercultural Communication segment as it spoke about things I can relate to. I found the topic of different cultures, their beliefs, communication, traditions, religion, what they wear and what they eat very interesting as they can stand out when they are surrounded by a different culture. Another interesting point in group 1’s presentation was foods that are considered norm by cultures, as I was shocked to learn that Vietnamese eat dogs and Japanese are allowed to slurp their soup as I couldn’t imagine eating what I have been raised to treat as a family pet. Nor would my mother allow me to slurp my soup, whether we are here or on vacation in Japan. It helped me understand that what is normal for my culture may not be seen the same by other cultures and vice versa. The example that was made in regards to opening gifts on Christmas eve instead of Christmas day for the Spanish culture is something I grew up with and can relate to. Over the ye...

Group Presentation Blog

In my speech class, we were assigned to create presentations for our groups chosen chapter. Everyone presentation, in my opinion, was unique in its own way. Each persons had to do part of the PowerPoint including me. Everyone had a different way of presenting the information from the chapters.   I feel like I learned a large amount of information watching everyone present their part in the PowerPoint. Group one’s presentation was about “Intercultural Communications”. My groups presentation was about “Communicating in groups”. Groups three’s presentation was about Group leadership and Problem Solving”.                   To start, Group one’s presentation had a lot of information. Each member of the group organized each slide in a way the everyone watching could understand. Some of the members even put sh...

Blog experience  Melany Barreto                                        I really enjoyed the last class's presentation; working as a team makes it easier to achieve goals, increases motivation and creativity, everyone shares their ideas, and we learn from one another. They were all fantastic. My group was number 2 and we talked about different ways to communicate in groups. I loved the introduction that Michael made, it was very creative and different. I really liked the size that we had, it was easy to understand and interesting, first I read the entire section to have knowledge about everything and then I focused on the part that I had ...

PRESENTATIONS 3,9, & 10 EXPERIENCE

Maria del Valle Ortuno PRESENTATIONS 3,9, & 10 EXPERIENCE  Our first presentations were given in Speech class the other day. This event was significant for a class whose primary goal is to communicate. Despite the fact that it was early and we had some technological challenges, the results were fantastic. Everyone did their best and properly shared some intriguing facts from chapters 3, 9, and 10 of the COMM5 speech communication book. In this blog, I'll discuss what I learned and found fascinating from each of the three groups. The day began with a presentation by group one on Chapter 3: Intercultural Communication. Despite the fact that it was early in the morning and they had to break the ice by presenting first, group one began with enthusiasm and professionalism. They discussed culture and how important it is to keep it in mind when communicating. I realized that any of us could be talking to someone whose culture is so different from ours that our communication is affecte...

Communicating in Groups

Image
All of the presentations on Tuesday were really good. group 2, which is my group, talked about different ways to communicate in groups which was chapter 9. To me, everyone in my group did an amazing job. The video that Michael did to start the presentation was excellent and it was an excellent way to introduce the class to our chapter.  Group one had an amazing presentation. Other than ours they were one of my favorites. I liked how they talked about different cultures. They talked about foods, religion, traditions, and many other things. How we might come from the same ethnic group but our costumes and beliefs are all different and special in their own unique way. Also, when they talked about disabilities. How that should not be a reason why people should be treated differently. The examples and videos that they showed were great. I feel that they backed up all of their information really well and it had really good visuals. Group three also did great with their pres...

Presentations blog

Jan Ferreiro I personally really enjoyed the group aspect of the first presentations as it is something I have to get used to and be comfortable with depending on other people. I think group experiences, in general, depend greatly on the people you are surrounded with, if you are surrounded by people who are proactive and engaged then in turn you will be and will have a positive association with group activities and like them. On the flip side, a group with people who aren’t as active and engaged as you are can often leave with a disproportionate amount of work compared to other group members and will leave you distrusting other people in group settings. In this assignment, I enjoyed my group and found them to be just as motivated to the work as I was which made my only group experience in college a positive one. My team leader and other students set up everything in a clear way so I could get my slides out of the way and practice my presentation for the day we had to present. I a...
I enjoyed listening to group 3 intercultural communications input, I'm surprised to know that the Vietnamese eat dogs. Since hearing stuff like that would be considered stereotypical and racist, so you would have seen the surprise on my face when I heard them say that. What I'm not surprised to hear is the gender-bending skirt that the men were in Sweden, and how everyone doesn’t seem bothered. The video they showed in one of the slides shown was also interesting to watch, the Asian man apologizing for something that wasn't his fault caught my attention. Another video that caught my interest is the video that showed different ways cultures greeted or say hi to each other, the Eskimos rub or kiss each other nose as a way of greeting and in East Asia, they bow to show respect and to greet others. The video about different cultures was also interesting to watch showing the different people and their customs, I didn’t know there were so many ways to communicate nonverbal to so...
