Group Presentation Blog

In my speech class, we were assigned to create presentations for our groups chosen chapter. Everyone presentation, in my opinion, was unique in its own way. Each persons had to do part of the PowerPoint including me. Everyone had a different way of presenting the information from the chapters.  I feel like I learned a large amount of information watching everyone present their part in the PowerPoint. Group one’s presentation was about “Intercultural Communications”. My groups presentation was about “Communicating in groups”. Groups three’s presentation was about Group leadership and Problem Solving”.

To start, Group one’s presentation had a lot of information. Each member of the group organized each slide in a way the everyone watching could understand. Some of the members even put short video to help us better understand the topic that they were presenting. What I learned from their group presentation was that communication with people of different, race, color, sex and gender, religion, culture, beliefs, and ethnicity better help people not only understand each other better but also helps a person learn the lifestyle of different people around the world. I myself have even learned a lot about a person from a different part of the world by communicating with them and becoming good friends. I believe that it is fundamental for a person to learn about their culture but also the culture of many people around the world. Another thing I learned was that not everyone in my country tolerates people of different race/color, sexual orientation, ext.… just because they are different than them and are not considered as normal based on their standards. It is very sad to think that many people think this way. This way of thinking is more common with the older generations than it is with younger generations like Gen Z. This is another thing I learned while watching this groups presentation. Because being different in the mid nineteenth century was considered bad, many older people raised in that era have not changed their views even today where being different is widely accepted. Although there are many barriers when trying to communicate interculturally, for example, distance or language, nowadays there are many different ways to communicate interculturally because of modern technology. All in all, this was a great presentation, and I learned a lot of new information that I did not know before.

My groups presentation was different in its own way. I really loved the intro video in the beginning. That intro was very unique and unlike any other intro I’ve seen so far. Our presentation talks about communication in groups and how it is fundamental for groups to have a better experience and become more efficient to achieve their goal. It starts by explain how one of the most common groups that everyone is a part of are families. I learned that there are many different types of family’s groups with different names. Each family has different ways to communicate with each other that better help them become closer. Another thing I learned is that it is very healthy for one to have a social group apart from your family. I’m pretty sure that everyone has a social group, whether big or small, at one point in their life. There are also other groups that are like a social group but have a specific goal or interest that they want to achieve. These groups are called interest group and support groups. Due to quarantine, most of the groups I have been in have been virtual. A virtual group has its advantages and its disadvantages. One advantage could be technology. You have access to any information that you need right in front of you which can help finish the assignment or goal faster than if you have to search in a book. A disadvantage is that you miss out on the experience of meeting new people in person and possibly becoming friends with another member of the group.  I have worked with many groups in my life, in school and after school. Reading this chapter and presenting my part in the presentation really helped know how to have a better experience with the other members of my group and any future groups that I will be a part of. I will most likely use this information to work harder and more efficiently when I am part of a group.

Group three’s presentation was about Leadership and how leaders solve problems that better help the group as a whole. I learned a lot from everyone presentation of each part of the chapter. This chapter is similar to the chapter my group had to present on. Leadership is very important when working in groups. Almost every group has one or more leaders helping keep everyone organized and informed. What I also learned was that leaders are not the only ones that help give out information to other group members. Any member, whether a leader, can help out. Leaders also have a lot of responsibility which some people can handle, but others don’t and end up quitting.  I was part of a group a couple of years ago and understand all the responsibilities they have and that every member looks up to them for answers. I personally would not want to become a leader because of all the responsibilities I would have; I would not be able to handle a of it. Another thing I learned in this presentation is what many leaders have to learn in order for the group to succeed. Leaders have to know have find problems and figure out solutions to them. Overall, this groups presentation was great, and I feel like I learned a lot watching and reading each slide. Each slide was very well presented, and I feel like each member knew all the information they were given and presented it well.

To summarize, each group did a great job organizing and presenting all the information from each chapter. Although there were some mistakes every once in a while when someone was presenting like stuttering. Everyone did an amazing job and I believe everyone worked well together in this assignment.
